The Hunt for ANDERSON’S Garrison
aka the JACOB ANDERSON Dig Site, Flying Point, Freeport (formerly) North Yarmouth, Maine, USA
PART 4: August, 2024
The southerly stone cellar wall continues to emerge during the month of August. It is noted that the foundation stones are packed tightly in marine clay. Also a large pile of brick and stones from the chimney fall are beginning to appear. The bricks show evidence of both clay and a home-made mortar made with ground mussel shells. (not the oyster shells that we found previously at the McFadden site) Some highly corroded iron pieces, mostly unidentified at this time, are being found in and around the chimney fall. We continue to find fragments of 19th century household items as well as a few earlier hand forged nails and spikes. ~JTM. 12-28-2024 MUSP Archaeological (surveyor’s) Report
