The Hunt for ANDERSON’S Garrison

aka the  JACOB ANDERSON Dig Site, Flying Point, Freeport (formerly) North Yarmouth, Maine, USA

PART 3: July, 2024

The top of the southerly stone cellar wall continues to emerge slowly during the month of July. As the wall begins to be uncovered, more and more artifacts are being found. Buttons, cuff link, clay pipe pieces, pieces of glass and pottery. Things related to cooking such as a large tooth of a carnivore (a moose perhaps?) various unidentified wrought iron pieces, and importantly a piece of salt-glazed stoneware which appears to match similar stoneware found at the Means site! This is serious evidence that the site is going to prove to be the mid 18th century time period we are hoping for and the stoneware found at both sites is intriguing given the two sites were occupied by sisters and that Alice Means had moved in with her sister Agnes after the 1756 “massacre.”  Could it be two broken pieces from the same tea set? Or did the sisters have matching tea sets? ~JTM. 12-28-2024 MUSP Archaeological (surveyor’s) Report
